"Born
Again"
Hisham el Masry was 29 years
old when he was first diagnosed with cancer. "I didn't quite understand what
was happening. I had been undergoing treatment for lung problems for a
month and all of a sudden I was hit with the bad news".
Hisham was diagnosed as a case of stage 4 Non-Hodgkin
lymphoma shortly after being hospitalized because of some vague symptoms he
was complaining of such as chest tightness, difficulty in breathing and
coughing.
"I was very depressed. I was diagnosed with cancer
just after my wife gave birth to my son. I felt like I needed to be there
for him. The fact that I was diagnosed with cancer also got me thinking
about all my actions throughout my life. I didn't pray enough, I used to
drink a lot of alcohol. It was like I wanted another chance."
Hisham el Masry immediately started treatment.
Following numerous cycles of chemotherapy, he had a bone marrow transplant,
all which were successful in improving his condition. It
wasn't the easiest transplant procedure by any means. Hisham undergone
dialysis to improve kidney functions that was affected secondary to
chemotherapy.
As time went by, Hisham was psychologically as well as
physically improving. "In the beginning I was extremely nervous, and I went
through very hard times. I have to admit that I gave the staff at Cairo cure
a very hard time, but nevertheless, they treated me like an angel. They were
more than marvelous. They were supporting to the point that one of the
doctors slept in the bed next to me in the isolation room in order to calm
me down."
"Now I perceive life in a very different way. Thanks
to Cairo cure I was given another chance to live my life the way I always
should have. I felt like I was born again"
At this moment in time Hisham is leading his normal
life. He has been in remission for more than 5 years now, and his
wife gave birth for his second son 2 years ago. "The staff at Cairo cure are now my friends.
Thanks to them, what I went through now seems like it was just a dream...."
